Here’s a video of a conversation I had with Steve Looi of Shake 2 Shape Nutrition Club in Astoria, NY on Goal setting, and how to set goals.

There’s some great content in this video. We talk about defining exactly what your goals are in life, and the consequences of not having clearly defined goals.

Goal setting is probably the most important skill you can acquire in life. It really is THE solution to a lot of the confusion you may be feeling. If you don’t know where you’re headed, if you don’t have a clear sense of purpose then no matter how hard you try you will get nowhere. Fortunately goal setting is an easy skill to acquire.


Start now. Set a goal, any goal. Set a goal to discover your interests, passions, and wants in life. Create a list of these things by some exact date in the near future. Accomplish this goal, set another, and I can assure you, you’ll feel a new sense of purpose, confidence and drive. Your world changes when you have direction. Don’t let life itself steer your ship, you are it’s driver… It’s YOUR life.

I’m out in Tucson, AZ right now, for a friend’s wedding. I’m having a great time, busy, relaxing, seeing beautiful things, and learning a lot. It’s good to unwind sometimes. Sometimes busyness (the cups of tea, and sand) help you re-align focus, determine priorities, rid anxieties, and all in all get back on track.

TWO CUPS OF TEA:

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough,

remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of tea…
A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.
The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full.

They agreed it was.
The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.
Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous “yes.”
The professor then produced two cups of tea from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.
“Now,” said the professor, as the laughter subsided, “I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life…
The golf balls are the important things; your family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions; things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.
The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car.
The sand is everything else; the small stuff.
“If you put the sand into the jar first” he continued, “there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.
Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18 holes. Do one more run down the ski slopes.
There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first; the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.”
One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the tea represented.
The professor smiled. “I’m glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a couple of cups of tea with a friend.”

#1 How To Make Millions With Your Ideas by Dan Kennedy

An excellent guide to the many channels available for income generation, for would be entrepreneurs. A must read.

#2 Hypnotic Writing by Dr. Joe Vitale

This is a favorite Marketing resource of mine. It’s written using the principles Vitale teaches in the book. An easy, education and fun read.

You may remember Joe Vitale from, “The Secret”. Yup! Same dude.

#3 The Four Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss

Now here’s a very inspirational resource. It’s loaded with tips, contacts, websites, and other resources for lifestyle design. Tim Ferriss has done a masterful, well written job at compiling some of the best info out there on the subject of living the entrepreneurial lifestyle. Another must read for would be entrepreneurs.

#4 The Ultimate Guide To Google Adwords by Perry Marshall

If you’re going to begin a business of any sort, then PPC (Pay Per Click) Advertising is a route you have to take. If you want to learn it from the ground up, then Perry Marshall is your expert. Perry is the master of PPC or Google advertising methods and strategies.

I’d suggest also, that you opt-in to his newsletter. It’s jam packed with content. You’ll learn a lot from him. This guy’s an old pro.

#5 Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

Napoleon Hill is the pioneer of success material. He was commissioned by Andrew Carnegie to compile the success secrets of the country’s wealthiest men. What he discovered was astounding! All of those secrets are here in his writing. Yet another must read! I especially enjoyed his chapter on the benefits of leveraging your sexual energy. It might suggest the underlying cause of some of the motivational problems of our age.

#6 The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason

Here’s a classic on wealth building and re-investment of resources. It’s in story form, taking place in the wealthiest city of Babylon. 2 poor men take off on a journey to discover how it is that their childhood friend has amassed so much friggin money! It’s a story about what their friend, the richest man in Babylon, teaches them. A very fun, educational, and inspirational read.

#7 7 Strategies for Wealth and Happiness by Jim Rohn

Jim Rohn is another master. He’s an expert on teaching focus, direct, goal setting, and principles of wealth building. This book is last is my list which follows no particular order, but he may as well be at the top. Jim Rohn is THE business philosopher of our time.

If you’re serious about creating a mobile lifestyle, living an unconventional life, creating businesses, or online businesses, building wealth to protect your future, create freedom of time, or enjoy the material things in life, then these books are cornerstones to your education.

Through them, you’ll discover a pretty kick-ass world of avant-garde millionaires, intellectuals, artists, entrepreneurs, psychologists, and philosophers. Right up the alley of the would be entrepreneur.

And 13 years ago,as a 17 year old at a critical point in life, I looked down each path stretching out before me. I could see that whichever I chose would determine the rest of my life…

I knew what it was like to be drug addicted and homeless, broke and depressed. I also imagined what it must have been like to have abundance in joy and wealth. I was sure I would never regret the hardship of my experience (I could already see the value in difficulty) but something had to change.

For years I had beat my head against a wall with my desire for change but inability to put it into action. I coined a phrase and laughed to myself at its thought, “The harder I try, the farther I’m pushed”. This perfectly summed up my entire lack of will power….. HOW could I change when all I felt was that I could never change?

The turning point came when I had actually, finally had enough. I could no long go on wasting away, making poor decisions that were destroying any chance of me achieving my idealism’s dreams.

Having reached this point and come to this crossroad of two different paths, I HAD TO make a decision. My Life depended on it. What I chose here would certainly become the cornerstone of my failure or success…

At 17 years old, I chose to give up that drug addiction lifestyle to make way for a new life of my own design. It could take many years but I was ok with that. I knew that if I didn’t DO something now then I would always remain in the same place chanting “why?”

That point in my life taught me something that I had certainly guessed was true, that one must DO something for anything to happen.

If You constant DO even the littlest things to follow your dreams then you will be on your way to laying the right foundation for your future success.

PS.. I QUICKLY relapsed again after this moment. Sucks! Life’s a bitch I guess! It took me a few more years before i kicked the habits completely. Around 21 I guess… ;)
