How to solve the DRM problem
Jun 11th, 2009 by Adam
Here’s the BEST solution I could find to the current DRM problem. A way for artists to still sell CDs while giving away free music. It’s a brilliant presentation based on the DRM Problem /Solution paradigm of Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails.
Basically, what it is is this: By connecting with your fans, and creating a reason for them to buy, you can give them your music for free AND they will still buy your CDs! The same principle applies with internet marketing. You give away LOADS of free quality content, but still give people a reason to buy your product.
A reason to buy might be something like extra tracks released only on the CD, a large pdf file of some personal info, interviews or product info. Behind the scenes info would be something irresistible to fans. Videos are great reasons to buy as well. Extra videos, detailing the creation process, or containing ANYTHING interesting to fans.
Trent Reznor has mastered this with his Ghosts album.
Enjoy the video! You can learn a lot from it…
